Leased!
While signatures and money have yet to be exchanged to seal the deal, I’ve found a tenant for mom’s mainland house. That this happened via networking, rather than Craigslist, local ads, or a real estate agent, feels really good. No, networking is not a guarantee of perfection, but it’s a damn site better than shooting in the dark. Credit & background checks, and income have all passed muster.
I didn’t expect to accomplish this milestone for sometime, and it has shifted the priorities on my lengthy to-do list. That’s cool. This house becoming financially self-sufficient, sooner rather than later, goes a long, long way towards mom’s financial equilibrium. Once both houses are leased, her monthly cash output will be about the same as when she was living independently. Given the circumstances, it’s almost like she can’t afford not to live in assisted living.
