Snake Poop Water
My mom’s wonderful Island neighbor, the one who helped my parents with SO much for the last 15+ years, and is going to further remodel the grey water drain field for me, emailed the other day. He wanted to know if he could use the property’s original ground water well for agricultural water. He and his wife have a vegetable garden. We’ve reached the point in the year when well production is treated like a valuable commodity. This is the same well that we found without a lid… A (as it turns out) 4 foot deep pool of water sitting in tall grass, open to the sky. The antithesis of safety. Of course, I said they could use the well for their garden. He said he’d build a cover for the well.
Next he said he checked the ground well that currently provides water to the house and out buildings. He said, and I quote, “You will not be happy with the critters I found in the well…” Evidently he saw four snakes in the well! The first thing that my brain jumped to was, ‘EWwwwwww, snake poop water!!!!!’ Bathing in it, cook with it, and drinking it. Obviously I’m here to tell the tale, but EWwwwwwwww!!!! The as-of-yet undeployed drilled well is looking better and better all the time. When I go back up next month I’ll be taking drinking water with me.
