Transplant

Early tomorrow morning I take a friend from my earliest memory to our regional transplant center. He is donating a kidney to another friend, of the same tribe. He is buoyant as he goes to bed, after clear liquids all day, heading into this procedure. All that matters to him is that he’s giving our friend a new lease on life. He is selfless in this.

Our friend is the oldest son of my mom’s best and oldest friend, Adam. These happenings, this gift of an easier life given from one person to another, from within the deep established community my, my husband’s, and our friend’s parent’s established, before we were born, gives me something to hold on to during what I consider to be dark times. As a community we don’t always agree with each other, but we always support each other when and where it counts. 💜
