Standby

Covid-19 has hit me directly. No, I’m not sick, however my employer has, starting this coming Monday, had to put my job on “Standby.” As elder care communities across the country are either self-isolating, or should they accept federal dollars (Medicare/Medicaid) are in isolation as of Monday, my employer’s revenue has dried up. I saw this coming about three weeks ago, though I didn’t expect to lose all of my hours.

Standby is a situation with Unemployment where, for up to eight weeks, you don’t have to look for a job. If the standby lasts for more than eight weeks, it turns into regular unemployment where you are required to job search.

I am trying to look at this as forced vacation, though today I am feeling the loss. Four to eight weeks of gardening is kinda like a gift. Right?
