Shopping for Mom
A care staff member emailed me yesterday to let me know that mom needed more Tylenol. I let her know I’d have it at the community today. Next I contacted the amazing care manager, who has been such a help and a fantastic communicator, to ask if there was anything else mom needed. The list was long.
I was disheartened by the number of things that mom needed in addition to Tylenol:
- Shampoo
- Bodywash
- Depends
- Wipes (incontinence supplies)
- Razors and shaving cream (they’re helping her with her chin whiskers 💜)
- Toothpaste
I hit Costco this morning with a broader outlook as to my time expectation… Of course things like razors, shaving cream, and toothpaste come in mad-multiples. At first I thought I’d make it simple and deliver one of each of these items to the community. Then I heard my eldest daughter in my head, “Mom, there’s storage in that upper bathroom cabinet that Yaya can’t reach. You pay them the big bucks to manage Yaya’s storage needs. Let Go!” I did. They will handle it perfectly.
I added Lindor chocolate and a bouquet of wee carnations to the delivery (my tab!). I brought a vase with water for the flowers, and my wee pruners to snip the ends of the flowers before leaving them with staff. I chose the carnations because they’d be easiest to manage. A single flower type…. Staff doesn’t have time to triage bouquets.. When it gets gooey , they can remove it and mom won’t notice. Meanwhile, she will enjoy the sweet little blooms. And the chocolate 😉.
