June/July 2021 Island Trip – Day 15
Our AN was unable to locate the scrap metal person on the Island and so will load up the truck around 8 this evening. I had some hope that the rest of the metal could disappear without my participation, but not enough that I’m disappointed.
On the other hand, the enlarger did get picked up today, and I can report that save less than a quarter of a drawer full of select bits and pieces, the dark room is decommissioned. It’s very hard Not to have mixed feelings about this. I remember my dad building his dark room in our house two states away when I was 5 or 6. Photography was a love of his. I’m sad that the space in which to do that no longer exists, yet am happy with the outcome of where his gear ended up, and that on the mainland and the Island, not only will it continue to be used, but proceeds from its sale/s will benefit other artists and programs for them.
I accomplished everything possible on the closing-up checklist today, including swearing at the vacuum. It’s been a good trip, and I’m ready to go home. I’m tan, my hands are sore and tired, I’d like to take a shower where I don’t have to think about a six gallon limit on hot water, I miss my Sweetheart. I love being on the Island. I love being on the mainland.
