June 2025 Island Trip – Day 7

Today’s tasks included:

  • Cutting dead wood out of the apples and plum, and also,
  • Snipping out the two ‘tents’ from one of the apples. One had dead caterpillars in it, the other smaller tent had the teeniest caterpillars I’ve ever seen. Less than a centimeter long, and thinner than a 1/4 of a pencil lead. Bt is next.
  • I almost finished the push mower work, but me and the mower ran out of gas at the same time… It’ll take a minute to finish up on Friday.
  • I made another trip to town to get another gallon of finish paint for the lower barn, and groceries for dinner. A friend and his girlfriend were coming for dinner. The fish company at the port had a nice piece of King salmon.
  • Once back, I focused on tasks that also supported entertaining. Vacuuming, getting the rug Tim gave us out in front of Stella, dusting the extra chair, making a salad, taking out the garbage… A little housewife-ish but more like a trailerwife-ish, but out in the country.
  • We had a delightful time with our guests. He is probably the most broadly intelligent human I have ever known, and she is lovely. Not intimidated by his streams if intellect. They are very sweet together.
  • The only distraction to our evening were gnats! After our guests left and we settled down to backgammon, we had three sessions of killing them off the ceiling, where they congregated after most of the lights were off, with windex soaked paper towels. We must have done in 100 of them 😳.
My impulse purchase at the hardware store 😂.
