April 2026 Island Trip – Day 3
I got the ‘big’ mowing finished this morning – very gratifying, and moved onto the push mower. It and me ran out of gas by the big rhodie, so they are having an overnight this evening…
I met an acquaintance, who knew my dad, at the Grange. He walked through the AV equipment and I handed him a large stack of photo paper for the art center. I then stopped in at the Island Historical Society with a bunch of my dad’s negatives/slides/photos, which they were very excited about. This kinda made day 😁! They’ll scan them for their archives and get me digital copies. Then gas for the mowers, back to the property where I paused by the mower under the rhodie, filled it up, and then stopped for lunch.
Not feeling like mowing, I took all those alder branches and tossed them on the burn pile, and then exhumed two pieces of sheetmetal siding from the west side of the upper barn, moving them to a small cache of such things. I am hoping this will stop the occasional infiltration of water into that building when we get significant rain. Nothing is being hurt by water on the concrete floor, but if I can make it stop it’d be a good thing. And then…
I was absolutely wiped out and took a snooze. It’s probably too soon after ankle surgery for me to be working quite this hard. My foot is doing ok, tired but fine.
My neighbor to the east stopped by for a brief visit. She just lost her little sister to cancer. They were very close. We’re going to have dinner on Thursday. I’ll bring the food, she’ll provide the kitchen because,
While Stella’s couch is being reupholstered, I’ve started tearing out the 27-year old rug (!!), after my snooze 😏. I figured one 32-gallon garbage bag a day is enough. At least this is work I can do without hiking around the property 😂.
