June 2026 Island Trip – Day 2
This being the only predicted non-rainy day for the next week, I got in 4-hours of mowing. It’s very slow going when the grass is this long. You can’t push the mower hard, and essentially have to go over each pass twice. The good news is that the grass will stop growing next month!! 😁
I pulled out the intimidating grass killer and treated the perennial gardens on the east side of the house. 😱 I keep this 8 oz bottle of horror in a locked box. Despite the cap being sealed, the solution finds its way out of its container… I keep it in a ziplock bag in the locked container. This shit is flammable. It took three pairs of disposable gloves to manage this poison from its own container to the sprayer, and then get the product container back into its ziplock. When the invasive grass dies, which is surely will, it will have to be pulled out with gloves on.
I stopped into see Tim and bring him Trader Joe’s groceries. It is an offense for him to buy a lemon or lime on this Island… $1.50 a piece. 🙄 The TJ imports, on average, cost .46 cents a piece! I also set him up with a liter of olive oil and a wedge of what he thinks is the best brie in the country. It is an outstanding cheese, and I am offended buying cheese anywhere other than Trader Joe’s!
Tim’s mobility is more compromised than ever. He refers to himself as a Lame Duck in the most humorous of ways. He is very transparent about his limitations and his need for assistance with things he used to be able to do. Within our greater close community, I’m working on his request for assistance.
After multiple times trying to leave Tim’s 🙃, I finally headed to town to fill up one of the mower gas containers. Then home. Then a needed shower. Then (be proud of me!!) nothing important other than eating dinner!!
