June 2026 Island Trip – Day 13

The morning went swimmingly. A fellow stopped by to buy the jacks, which we were unable to use under Stella, and he helped me put the desk my grandfather built (my mom’s father, who I never met) into the back of my truck! Then a few hours later a woman and her husband stopped by to adopt Mrs. Ashmen’s dresser for a family they’re helping. This was one of my mom’s dressers that has to be late 1800’s, with a marble top. Mom bought it from our neighbor, or her estate, years before we moved to the Island. We are ‘furnitured up’ (do not know where my grandfather’s desk is going, but it’s the only thing of his I have) and this piece was not doing great sitting in the barn. Finding it its new forever home feels good, though I confess to having this cerebral conversation with my mom about it… Her scolding me for passing it along. Me reminding her that I do have her other dresser, and her acquiescing that a family in need really is a good landing place for Mrs. Ashmen’s dresser.

I headed to town hoping to get on an earlier boat, but was told the inter-island boat was down, and to keep the reservation I had. When one of the boats goes down, the schedule get’s goofy as the ferry staff try to accommodate all travelers. After parking in the shade, I went looking for Tim at the coffee shop, but found him walking into the sports bar to have lunch with his fly guy buddies! Having a long dormant pilot’s license, I was sanctioned as worthy to join the gang and really enjoyed listening to stories of glory days and planes gone by. There’s a book or two or three to be had around that lunch table. As the gathering broke up, I strolled the galleries without investing in art.

The ferry ride was spent chatting with one of the aviators from lunch and his two Jack Russel terriers! He was heading to his family and opted to drive rather than fly. 🛫

I got home and unloaded by 7PM-ish. My daughter, SIL and grandson stopped by to drop my car off. My SIL has had the car for a while while he was in between vehicles. It was nice to see them. 💕 My DH ordered in Thai dinner while I took a shower where I didn’t have to worry about filling up a holding tank, or running out of hot water 😏. It was a busy and good day.
