July 2026 Island Trip – Day 8
I spent time writing more notes on the sub-floor of the trailer for our general contractor before heading out this afternoon. And on paper too. There’s too much context to impart should this project take place when we’re not there. The materials are loaded in the trailer along with some very specialized tools and a ‘kneeler,’ because really, save your knees!
As we were closing up, I noticed a bit of water on the floor. It’s easy to tell it’s never been there before as the floor wasn’t water stained, much less rotten, and the carpet that came up from that spot wasn’t water logged or damaged. It was quick to deduce it was coming from the ‘condensing’ fridge. Checking the back hatch for the fridge revealed water too. Not buckets of water, but enough no know it’s not normal. I’ll look into it. If this is a sign of demise, we’re gonna replace it with a ‘residential’ fridge. Per my “Antiquated Appliance Accord” we do NOT throw money into 27-year old appliances (or even 12-year old appliances). Further, Stella will never boondock away from electricity, so replacing her fridge with another that runs on propane, and costs a fortune, seems excessive. And if there is an extended power failure while we’re there, LJG’s fridge runs on propane. Thank you for letting me talk myself into a solution should this fridge piddle be more than an adjustment of a screw…
It was nice to take the later boat and not have to rush at all. The other side of that card is getting home 6:30ish, which feels a little squeezed 😏. And things are put away. My DH is watching soccer, the cat is having a walk outdoors, and Uber will deliver dinner. It was a good week, and I’ll be glad when one project (flooring prep) doesn’t seem to lead to another (fridge mysteries)!
