August 2026 Island Trip – Day 1

The best thing about arriving today was getting to see Stella’s new floor! I marvel at the lack of weird stains the carpet had, despite aggressive carpet cleaning. All the surfaces and drawers needed to be cleaned of ‘floor dust,’ and the floor itself needed a vacuum and wipe down. We need to trim out the floor, get the couch back in and refinish and reinstall the weird half walls in the bedroom. All things in good time. We’re so pleased to be back on a real floor. Subfloor days are over!

I just ‘served’ the tenants their rent increase notices using our state’s legal verbiage, months ahead of the actual lease renewal, as prescribed by law. They seem unconcerned about the amount, which is not onerous. We had a pleasant chat, and I took my leave.

We strolled the fruit trees. The plum is loaded, two of the apples are performing nicely, one is mostly taking a break this year, and the big tree has some beautiful fruit, mostly out of reach.

This evening we’re heading to town for dinner at our fav place. At the moment we’re watching our football team’s first preseason game. A nice way to relax after getting Stella setup with a little more effort than usual.
