August 2026 Island Trip – Day 2
Mowing is easy in August. The grass has stopped growing except where the water table is high, and over the leach field. I have one more stint to do and will be all caught up. There’s no need to mow in the NE fields around the fruit trees. The only thing growing there are wee dandelions, which the bees like.
I was able to remove the carpet off the weird half wall pieces that were on either side of the coach in the bedroom and the piece that covered the water heater. I thought it was going to be a huge pain in the butt. Then I remembered a can of paint/epoxy remover and started experimenting with it on the 27-year old adhesive that had held the carpet in place. It removed the great bulk of the antique adhesive on my test patch! What a relief to not have to sand that dried goo off.
My DH got the box made to cover the batteries under the couch. Its purpose is to keep the cat off the inverter that lives in between the two batteries. The inverter is warm… 🐈⬛ The box turned out beautifully, and is a necessary step in getting the couch back in.

On our way to have dinner with Tim, we dropped money off to our general contractor, who is Tim’s neighbor, for the floor install. Tim was in good humor, but has taken another fall 😢. He has a very sore left shoulder and is sporting a few bandaids on top of his head. We had a great dinner in which I learned sweet potatoes are actually good! As is our custom of late, I cooked. Tim asked, after thanking me for cooking and gathering at his place, if I enjoyed using the kitchen. I said I did and felt like I was coming up to speed on where most things live in the space. We learned that Meals on Wheels are providing him with some amount of groceries. This is due to mobility, not financial need. He talked about the fruit that came in last week, all local, all wonderful. We heard new to us tales from around the world. Tim is very well traveled. We chatted about the coming winter predictions, our mainland projects, and laughed when Tim asked my DH not to do the dishes as he headed to the kitchen. My DH replied, “You’re not my dad!!” Tim answered, “I would have been honored to be your dad.” 💜 Tim will be here until 9/15, and so can come to mom and dad’s party! This is perhaps the most important piece of news of the day.
