August 2026 Island Trip – Day 5

Leaving on the late afternoon boat is starting to have its merits… It’s like having a whole extra day and still getting back to our mainland place in time for an Uber dinner, a non-drought shower, and being yelled at by the cat. I have tried explaining to the cat that missing the two-way car ride and being stuck in the trailer is worth his pet sitter spending 30-minutes with him each day. He is unimpressed, but is glad we’re here to squawk at.

My DH got the second floating floor finished under the second couch arm! I picked 30-40 pounds of apples from one tree, and 10+ pounds of plums. There are LOTS more of both. I took some to the tenant, and left the ‘picker’ at one of the apple trees in case they want more, and because our neighbor to the east is going to bring her grandkids over to pick.

Picker on a l-o-n-g pole.
Italian prune plums 💜. Pen for size context. Pic of apples coming up.

I also finished removing 27-year old adhesive from the final two surfaces that will now get sanded, primed and painted before being reinstalled into Stella’s bedroom. Again, the heat gun a miracle tool!

We pulled out exactly at our 3PM goal. The boat was running a bit late and so we strolled about town pausing at the book store. Neither of us bought anything 😳. Certainly there were books and other items we’d both enjoy having, but I have rather a lot of book whose covers I haven’t cracked 😏. Working on a little self control!

We return in 2.5-weeks for almost 2-weeks during which we’ll have the celebration of life for my folks. Truly, it’s going to be a party, as my parents would have wanted.
