October 2026 Island Trip – Day 2

Finding drain hose for the fridge was a bust today. There’s a marine supply I’ll try tomorrow. The existing hose is smaller than 1/2” and larger than 3/8ths”. This puts us in the realm of 16ths, and that’s doesn’t exist. If there’s a rubber hose to be found, that might work as it’s so flexible. The replacement hose does exist online and calls itself 1/2”, but I am dubious. Hopefully the marine supply can tell me if the original material shrank over its 27-years of service.

Propane was a success, though I had to buy new tanks. The 5-gallon tanks expired in the 80’s!!! I have hot water and am feeling pretty fancy about it 😂!

I wrestled with the pile of alder rounds that are in the way of the road work, or more specifically, the ditch for the road. 5 more rounds are in the wood shed, many are rolled back into the woods, and the bulldozer will move the remainder. It kinda hurts to see potential firewood get tossed, but it was basically (mostly) dust when it fell, so I gotta let it go.

Some interesting blocks, combined with pressure treated 2×6, are coming together to create a boarder for the gravel bed under the overhang. I bought the blocks some years ago thinking we could use them for skirting for Stella, but the proof of concept didn’t pan out. The gravel isn’t shifting much, and this will ensure that it stays put.

This is the first Tim-less trip. I miss him and I’m concerned about him. He took a fall on his way south. Thankfully his friend who did the road trip with him was there to help.

The light is fading. Time to fetch dinner things from the upper barn.
