October 2026 Island Trip – Day 5
The road work moved ahead by leaps and bounds today. Spreading gravel will do that for ya!

While reigning in my inner 8-year old boy (watching dump trucks in the coolest!) I:
- Got the finish paint on the bedroom boxes.
- Finished the gravel retention project at the lower barn’s overhang.
- Removed the last 5 alder saplings to the west of the house. God knows we don’t want a new herd of attack alders growing in striking distance of the house.
- Got the window covering prototype done, installed, and then removed the next two window frames, cleaned them and glued in the earth magnets. This project, sewing included is moving to the lower barn.
- Changed, for the first time, an onboard water filter for a separate spigot at the kitchen sink. After running water through it for 3-minutes, it should be good to go. I’ll do a ‘taste test’ between it and the Brita filter/pitcher. If it’s at least as good as the Brita, the Brita can retire and open up some counter space. When you have a maximum of 12 sqft of counter space, every inch counts.
