October 2026 Island Trip – Day 6

Today’s banner accomplishment was replacing the drain hose on Stella’s fridge. At this point I’m not going to switch over to using this fridge as I head out Saturday late morning. It’ll be ready to go when we next return.

It took 60 minutes to replace the filter on the water inlet for Stella. This should have taken 5.5 minutes, but I couldn’t stop a leak on one end of the filter. After exhausting all ideas, it turned out to be the hose gasket. 🙄 I will endeavor to think of this earlier in such struggles in the future, A lot of vinyl tape was sacrificed in pursuit of figuring out this damned leak!

A lingering item was crossed off the list today. I installed new gasket on one of Stella’s exterior hatches. The hatches for water and electric were done last summer, and this one is finally complete. It will help in some very small way with helping retain heat inside in cold weather.

Just as I was about to get sewing, the mobile mechanic showed up. He went through an amazing amount of electrical in Lady Jane (finding many broken ground ground wires underneath her), wiring in both barns, the panel, the outlet the trailer plugs into, and more. He spent three hours doing forensics. Once at a stopping place, he figured out that if the non-functional interior LED lights are in their off position, the tail lights will turn off 🧐. There’s a 12-volt feedback loop that has something to do with the LED. He want’s to keep cracking at the mystery (and we want him to!), and we’ll reconvene next month, Meanwhile he feels it’s safe to plug an oil heater in to keep the trailer at our preferred 50ish degrees while we’re gone.

The road work is complete! They’ll come back and roll again on Saturday for good measure.

I went to my neighbor to the east’s for dinner. I thought I was going to actually cook, but when I started, she suggested we have some soup she already had made. I turned out a salad, and we had more time to visit 😏.
