October 2026 Island Trip – Day 8
Getting everything buttoned up took more time than usual given that it’s October… Deploying/setting/checking heaters and and dehumidifiers to both trailers and the pump room, dumping water heaters, and packing out the four expired propane bottles on top of the usual left me with no time for picking a last round of apples. There weren’t many and the dear will appreciate them as they fall.
The lead of the road crew stopped by to roll the drives one more time. The timing was perfect as it rained just a bit overnight. The roller is a formidable piece of equipment. It weights 12,000 pounds and has a vibrate mode 😳 that can be felt in Stella when the roller is 150’ away.
I spent the ferry ride reading, stopped in at a fabric shop, and made it back by 3:30. Returning to a catless house was hard.
