2nd September Trip – DayTwo

Today: The metal recycling guy took a thorough look around and said it’d cost $3,000.00 to haul everything out. He understood when I said I needed the house to start earning money (rental income) before I could entertain that price tag. He was able to identify some of the smaller motors, but said unless one […]

2nd September Trip – Day One

I took it easy on myself this morning, and rather than catch the 9ish boat, I took the noonish boat. Way more civilized. I got a truckload from the tool shed into the upper barn. While doing this I also parsed things into categories such as: Metal Recycle, Hazardous Waste, Take Home, Dump/Recycling etc… A […]

Second Island Trip This Month…

Tonight I place the rental ad online, and tomorrow I return to the Island to meet and greet the anticipated applicants. Yesterday I sent the ad to friends and neighbors, one of whom (an attorney) made two good edits. This morning is about gathering the rest of the regulatory documentation (some things have changed in […]

Reassuring Signs From The Human Race

As bumped into at the grocery store… I all but walked into a former guitarist of mine at the local grocery today. The same guitarist who quit the band just before he was about to be fired. He’s dyed his hair a fetching blue, and added 50 additional pounds to his healthy frame. We talked […]

Stressors

I have accumulated, over the last few weeks, a collection of stressors, not many of which I have any control over… My left peroneal nerve damage is suddenly improving. The improvement began after making a follow-up appointment with my doctor… While I do not indulge in a lot of woo-woo, one has to wonder if […]

Settling in?

I was unable to get together with the neighbor directly north of mom’s property while on the Island. We email. Today she let me know that mom stopped asking her (via voice mail) to check in on the house after four voicemail requests, in mid-August. Mom was asking the neighbor to let her know how […]

September 2018 Island Trip – Day Eleven

Getting up before 7AM went a long way toward an unhurried exit from the Island. I use a thorough but short checklist to make sure the house and property is closed up securely when leaving. To my delight Paul the pest guy showed up at 8:30. I thought he was treating the house a week […]

September 2018 Island Trip – Day Ten

I am done painting. If this were my house there would be more painting to do, but it is a rental, and I am finished. Aside from the powder post beetles derailing placing the property On the rental market this trip, the only thing I did not accomplish was putting a few coats of clear […]

September 2018 Island Trip – Day Nine

I only stepped out of the house twice today to put things in the truck that were no longer needed this trip. Otherwise it was full-time paint. The blue trim is applied to everything it was destine to spruce up, though it needs touch-up (see last post). The woodwork around the north windows has two […]

Short Paint Rant

The entity that deemed it necessary to rescue us from the horrors of latex paint fumes has rendered water based paint ridiculously inefficient. This miracle odorless product won’t cover primed surfaces with less than two coats, which means I’ve essentially painted this house three times.
