Mom & Dad

My eldest daughter gave me a framed photo of my parents for Mother’s Day that she took in 1999 when they took her to a gallery opening in Canada. It moved me to tears. They were whole, healthy, and happy. It helps me remember them the way they were in their prime. 💜

Call from my Uncle

My mom’s brother called me yesterday morning. I was enjoying a slow entry into my day with tea in bed when the phone rang. There have been many, many times over the last 5-years that I simply let calls from my uncle go to voice mail due to the anxiety that welled up while talking […]

Vaccine # 1!

Tomorrow late morning I receive the first poke! There is a relief in this that isn’t easy to articulate. We still need to keep our distance, wear masks, be hermits… I’m OK with all of it. It’s about joining the greater gang on the way to snuffing this virus out. No, I don’t think Covid […]

Mothering Sunday

Mother’s Day is known as Mothering Sunday in England. This slight shift on the holiday title, shared with me by late-former husband, always delighted me. This is my first Mother’s Day sans my mama. And the anniversary, holiday wise, that I last spoke with her. It was a sweet conversation. I’d sent a Mama’s Day […]

Rolling with the Punches – Written Late Nov 2014.

I found this in ‘draft posts.’ Never published. It was an eye opener to be reminded of what I wrote about, meaning that there was a lot more detail than was actually penned. And it was a good reminder to see my conclusion. Honestly, I don’t know how I walked this path with her. Yes, […]

April/May 2021 Island Trip – Day 10 & Photo Album

Closing up went as expected. It’s easier each time, and there’s simply less to do this time of year. Stella even got another vacuum. I walked an accidentally cut apple blossom sprig to my eastern neighbor. Met the knife sharpener, and still got to town in time to walk to the antique/consignment shop and pick […]

April/May 2021 Island Trip – Day 9

Today was good. After sleeping in, and then indulgently reading in bed for an hour, I decided to tackle the metal scrap pile. Everything I could safely extract is now in the truck. There’s a whole lot left, some fencing wrapped around fence posts that will likely find their way to a burn pile this […]

2021 April/May Island Trip – Day 8

Our alarm summoned us at 4:45 this morning in order to get my DH to the red-eye ferry. I stayed in bed, dozing, until he said, “T-minus 8-minutes.” The ferry was loading cars when we arrived. That meant he would walk on after cars loaded. They let walk-on passengers load before and after vehicles. I […]

April/May Island Trip – Day 7

The day started with a true farmer’s breakfast. We learned how to cook bacon in the toaster oven (thank you Google). Stella’s stove top has three burners, only one of which has temp control… the other are all or nothing. Our 1967 Airstream’s original stove offers endless temperature settings on all its burners… We got […]
