A Dream and an Epiphany
The Dream: It was, and aren’t they usually all, so weird. The dream started out being a workish gathering that morphed into something more family/acquaintance oriented. It involved mom making sushi. Someone I didn’t know brought the fish. A mountain of fish. This is where my heart fell, because I knew mom would get agitated […]
December Island Trip – Day 4
Having started getting ready to go last night I was able to catch an earlier boat this morning. It had been my intention all along to pause at the hardware store on the mainland to return some big PVC connectors we didn’t use, so I turned right once east of the town where you catch […]
December Island Trip – Day 3
Another good day. I spent the first part of the morning delighting that Stella’s microwave is working. Yes, I used it to heat up yesterday’s tea, but it worked! It did not work in November after I blew a circuit and then melted down electrical wiring in the lower barn. It went round and round, […]
Photos
My Apple devices have split personalities while on the Island. I drop a t-Mobile SIM chip into the phone and tablet for connectivity while I’m here. This somehow interrupts their ability to talk to their mother ship and share photos. When I get home I’ll post a photo album of sorts with captions.
December Island Trip – Day 2
Today was a banner day: I started with breakfast and tea watching the sunrise through Stella’s windows. The rain started up shortly after. Next I made one of two pot-mitts for Stella out of, of course, a trailer/woods themed fabric. The light quilting resembles our 1967 Airstream! The lower barn’s under-sink cabinet needed attention. Lots […]
Black Beast
My truck is known at the Black Beast. It has a GWV of 11800 pounds, is built to tow, doesn’t leap out of the gate, but is happy to guzzle gas in order to do your bidding, regardless what you have in the bed, or attached to the hitch. When trying to get Stella up […]
December Island Trip – Day 1
I took a mid-morning boat (so civilized) and did some Christmas shopping when I got to town. When I got out to the property, I slid everything the truck has into low and gently drove up the hill and out onto Stella’s pad. It will be a delight when I/we can come up here with […]
Small Quiche Rant
I’ve been using the same little cookbook to guide me when making quiche for almost 40 (egads!) years. It doesn’t have any guidance about using scallops, of which I have half a pound along with a little cream and enough eggs… And some new 4” tart baking dishes! Off to the interwebs I go! What […]
And Now We Shall Christmas…
We met the kids yesterday at the U-Cut Christmas tree place. It was good to tromp through the fields assessing the merits of the trees. This year we were looking for something narrow for our sitting room. The deal was that we’d deliver the trees to the others. Truck… Shortly after parking, another customer said […]
