Safety Equipment
In mom’s Island home there were no smoke detectors, CO monitor, and the fire extinguisher was something out of the 70’s (the fire department identified it for me). Should there have been a fire, the place would have burnt to the ground as the antique extinguisher is so heavy there’s no way mom could have […]
Phone
Mom’s phone was installed in her apartment yesterday. She called me to let me know and give me the number (which I already had). Today she left me voicemail saying her phone was set up this morning, and left me the wrong number… 🙃 Evidently she had a really good day. The Women’s Group was […]
What Have You Done With My Real Mom???
Upon entering the community, mom was greeted like a VIP. We were ushered into the livingroom, (very good) coffee was placed in mom’s hand, and the executive director, Matt, was summoned. Mom and I sat down at a puzzle. Matt arrived, introduced himself, asked about the drive etc. I told mom that Matt was Daughter […]

On Wedesday morning I arrived at the SNF early (8am), while mom was at breakfast. After making sure she was in the dining room, I packed her belongings, and loaded them into the car, in three trips, my heart beating at 120 the entire time. When she strolled down the hall and saw me, she […]

I did things like fill the car with gas (so once we hit the mainland, I wouldn’t have to stop), took phone calls, made some stops, and worried. I spent about four hours with mom, leaving her at dinner. She had a good day with lots of friends stopping in. They all knew she was […]

On Monday, upon arriving at the SNF, the nurse took me aside to say she’d asked mom for the antihistamines. She explained to mom that state law didn’t allow residents to have medication in their rooms (an alternate fact…). Mom handed over the box. It was unopened.
Grounded!
We had a nice plan for the afternoon: Lunch at a recommended vegan restaurant, and then a walk to to the dock to show my husband the marine aquarium, followed by a stroll along the harbor docks to gawk at boats. If the weather wasn’t cooperative, the museum was a fine alternate. Toward the end […]
Today’s Plan
Breakfast Load of laundry into the dryer. Not a big deal, but the dryer is not in the house… Shower. Wash another piece of the tile floor. Load the car for the dump. The dump staff know me on a first name basis now. Pack lunch for me and mom. Go to the dump. Buy […]
Why Can’t I Go to the House??
Mom is stuck on getting out to the house. On one hand, I understand this, on the other hand, it is VERY difficult to field. Her short term memory, coupled with, what seems to be her obstinacy, makes this a challenge. She asked me again mid-day why she couldn’t return to the house. I gave […]
