15,000

This late afternoon there have been exactly 15,000 views on this blog! In the greater blogosphere, that’s not a huge number, but for this humble chronical, it feels ginormous, and I am thankful for all of you who read what I pen. Thank you.

May 2018 Island Trip Day 10

The car is loaded to the brim, the plants are watered, dishes done and put away, buildings are locked, check list completed. Once on the mainland I’ll stop at a nursery for the first time, whose owner I’ve met through industry functions, Goodwill, and our local Gospel Mission. Then home, where I’m told my own […]

May 2018 Island Trip Day Nine

Well yes, June is upon us, but why change a theme. Today was mostly about good and bad water. The septic guys were here by 9:15. They used a locator to find the tank, which was kinda cool. The  current piping took a left directly after the clean out, and they found the tank in […]

2014 Family Xmas Letter

While going through papers last week, I found an end of year letter from an old friend and colleague of mom’s who’s wife has since died of Alzheimer’s. In it he writes: “…we were unable to accurately describe the new symptoms, but once we combined “screaming” and “dementia,” Google understood all too well. Thousands of […]

May 2018 Island Trip Day Eight

I kinda hit a wall today after: Putting the couches back together, and back in place. Washing the bi-fold doors for the washing machine closet. Cleared the pine trimmings from where the deck replacement will go. It’s the start of the new burn pile!  Continuing to look for the septic tank, as evidently all I […]

May 2018 Island Trip Day Seven

Today saw: More floor cleaning. Living room, hallway, and master bedroom are done. Only areas under furniture remain. Cleaning all the little places I’ve discovered that aren’t painted. Behind the big shelf, and a cabinet, above the oven after packing up what lived there. Then painting them. Bedroom closets are on another list! The couches […]

Curious "Good Bye"

I returned a call from my FMIL a couple of nights ago. We had the same chat we always do. As we signed off, she said, “Have a good life. God Bless.” She is not fatalistic at all, but is closing fast on 95. I was a little taken aback but rolled with the dialog.

Keys

While rummaging in the tool shed for something, I came across two additional house keys. It made me wonder if these were extras my mom stashed, and then lost track of. She was always locking herself out of the house, and then having to walk to the neighbors for the spare key. Granted, both door […]

May 2018 Island Trip Day Six – Part 2

The entire day went down to the septic tank hunt, and ended in success. This was not my favorite way to spend a beautiful day… After weed-whacking a wide path directly down the hill from the sewer pipe, I took a slim stainless steel rod and started hunting. My first hope turned out to be […]

May 2018 Island Trip Day Six – Part One

The Amazing Neighbor stopped by with an additional tip for clearing the toilet. He had me place the garden hose as far into the bowl as it would go, and seal around the hose with towels. He then turned on the hose. Our initial try seemed to work. Water went down the loo, and did […]
