Jane says: She fell going down the front stairs, of which there are no more than four. She landed on her right hand. One finger is swollen and very painful, but she doesn’t think it’s broken. A home health person is coming twice a week. She was there when the fall occurred (thank goodness) She […]
Wackadoodle(s)
I’m surrounded by various levels and intensities of crazy people. By 7AM this morning, in an 18 hour time frame, three people lobbed their ‘crazy’ my way. It was exhausting. Dana texted me saying she had devastating news about a dear friend. I texted back the usual, “So sorry to hear…” She called. A friend […]
Blue Grass Invite
Confession…. Mom called Saturday for the first time in three and a half weeks, and I let the call go to voice mail. She called to specifically invite us to the community’s Father’s Day celebration, that day, which included a blue grass band. My parents listened to blue grass music when I was a kid. […]
Defunked Poop Pump
Without going into mad detail, our septic woes were caused by a dead pump. It was 15 years old and had been pumping poop non-stop the whole time. So, at over two grand (inc tax), its replacement, amortized over a decade and a half, actually costs us about 37 cents a day. Given that this […]
Septic Déjà Vu
As if having to unexpectedly handle mom’s septic issues on the Island wasn’t enough, now we have a problem with our hybrid system. Makes me, more than ever, want to take our grey water out of our black water cistern, just like my daddy did… At this juncture, until someone can get here, I have […]
Guilt
Call me slow, but it’s just settling in that I have tremendous guilt for wanting to spend only limited time with my mother. It’s very uncomfortable to repeatedly sit with the verbal onslaught of someone’s dialogue regarding nothing that has to do with anything surrounding their own situation, or reality. I should be able to […]
Imported Arachnid
When packing up the Island kitchen, I set aside the tin clad copper pans that mom inherited from one of the authors of her career capping editing project. These are now at our home, and I’ll research how to clean them up. One of the pieces had a spider, and its web, inside of it. […]
Dentist 4.4
Turns out the dentist had mom’s permanent crown back from the lab, and installed it. Mom is none the wiser, but knows everything is OK. The front office let me know our collective sneakiness is intact.
Dentist 4.3
The dentist figured out mom broke her temporary crown. The one she doesn’t know she has. YAY!!! This is SO much better than an additional dental problem. Yes, it needs mending, and that is achievable.
Dentist 4.2
Saint Jack will take mom to the dentist at 3:30. The dentist, who is leaving on vacation late this afternoon for a week, held a block of time open today for just such an emergency (talk about timing). He’ll call me in the middle of the exam with treatment options.. I will call mom and […]
