No need to track foibles any longer…
Mom hasn’t been able to grasp/remember that I’ve been staying on the Island, much less her house. She asks each time I leave the SNF if I’m leaving the Island. The above was evidenced, once, by her telling me there was mold on the wall of her house because there’s been no heat on at […]

I’m on the 10:30 sailing back to the mainland. Mom will forget about my schedule. It’s a conundrum… On one hand you don’t want to start off the day informing her of your plans because she will spend the entire day asking you about them, and then still ask the staff where you are when […]

When I got to the hospital on the 11th, they presented me with paperwork (the theme de jour) that mom had started working on. For her home address she used the address the Island house used to have. 15 years ago the postal service got tough and told the subdivision they had to change the […]

Mom is less cranky each day. She has cycled through different confusions and forgetfulness’s. I think she understands that she’s in skilled nursing because of “some trouble with the car,” but doesn’t always remember one or both accidents. One has to remind her she ‘spontaneously lost consciousness’ (the unwavering reply) behind the wheel, twice, when […]

1/18/17 Some of this is repetitive, but it was written a week ago, and I don’t have it in me to edit. —— Mom is at the Island nursing home for a week or two, after being told she is unable to return home because her condition renders her unsafe in her home. The condition, […]
Glass Recycle
While it’s unknowable how long it’s been since mom took her recycling to the dump, there were 32 wine bottles (.750 and 1.5 liter), three brandy bottles, and numerous beer bottles stacked up. While I know she indulges in a martini every night, I didn’t find any gin bottles…
The Fridge
Contents worth noting: Newman’s Own sauce expired 2/2013 Seven decanted bottles of Gatorade. If mom can manage the decanting process, handling a gallon bottle, why go through this exercise? Antique lefover rice. Exploding pint of homemade broth. Age unknown. Homemade pint of spaghetti sauce under pressure. Age unknown. Open home-canned beets, dated 5/2014. Open home-canned […]

This is actually post #2. #1 is on my laptop, which is not connected to the wifi at mom’s Island house. At this juncture I am thrilled to have my online email interface reestablished (who needs it with a smart phone in your pocket… Until you’re in a location with .1% service.). I’ll try the […]
Accident # 2…
Mom ran the rental car down a steep embankment at about 4pm heading home from town. She told the staff at the ER she fell asleep. Tim and Cindy told me she fell asleep 5 or 6 times this afternoon at coffee. An ER doctor, who happened to witness the accident, said mom appreared to […]
